I don’t understand why Italian-American organizations like Unico National are giving MTV shit for airing the reality show Jersey Shore. The show is a lot like the Real World, but instead of the angry black guy, the sensitive gay and the headstrong Christian chick from Indiana, it’s all just bright orange Italians fueled by vodka and the possibility of fucking in the near future.
And, just to set the record straight: MTV didn’t make up the concept of young, greasy Italians spreading STDs on the boardwalk. I’ve been to the Jersey shore and that’s exactly what happens there. MTV just happened to lure a few and stuff them into a house so we can all laugh at them.
Unico National says on their website:
“TV is resorting to trash television that panders for ratings at the expense of the Italian American community,” DiMino said in a letter to MTV Network’s Chair and CEO Judy McGrath. “This type of programming represents a direct affront and attack by MTV on the character of Italian Americans, the fourth-largest ethnic group in America.
Jesus, it’s not like they called the show Guido House.
MTV staffers told Fox News that because Jersey Shore stereotypes Italian-Americans as Guidos, they continue to receive death threats.
Because that’s not stereotypical.
